There’s a really good article here on energy efficiency tips. The one that caught my eye was the tip to close heavey lined curtains as soon as it gets dark.

- Close the curtains to your living room and bedrooms as soon as it gets dark to reduce heat loss through the windows. Heavy or lined curtains are best. Annual savings are approximately £15.

Good tip. Shutters on the outside of windows, where available, are similarly useful for cutting down energy loss.

it is also important to check for air leaks around windows and doors, by properlly stoping the cold air leaving, or the heat leaving in the winter you can save alot more then 15 pounds. There are lots of little things like this (or closing the curtains) that help make your house more energy efficient and save you money in the long run.
