If You Go Down Into The Woods Today

Towards the end of 2013, interior design had taken a trip into the woodlands.  Foliage prints and wallpapers, natural woods, and animal motifs crept into interior design magazines and homes and this design trend is set to carry through into this year and be bigger than ever.

Taking inspiration from nature is perfect if you want to mix classic designs with quirky and interesting pieces.  You can achieve this look in varying degrees either by adding a few accessories or upcycling some pieces you already own, such as benches, sofas and chairs.  A relatively neutral colour scheme of crisp White, deep Browns, and Greens helps complement bolder pieces and indulgent fabrics.

The natural colours of this beautiful check wool fabric (Skye in Heather) evokes thoughts of long walks in the woods, roaring fires and help bring out the dark wooden features of furniture such as this stunning reupholstered Wing back chair.  This fabric suits the rustic accessories of the image above such as chunky wooden furniture and aged candle holder, to really let the fabric stand out I would keep the walls neutral and use natural flooring

Scatter cushions are probably the quickest and easiest way to achieve this trend on a budget.  Depending on your sofa and décor you can choose bolder styles or keep it simple with black and white prints such as this wolf design.  Scatter cushions like this work beautifully when paired with faux fur throws in inviting Mink hues.

Faux Stag heads are a huge trend at the moment whether on prints like this scatter cushion or as decorative art such as this green and white piece.  You can pick up items in varying styles and colours, so will fit in to most decors.

These wall stickers are great if you don’t want to commit to wallpaper as they’re easy to apply, usually quite inexpensive and can be removed when you want try something new.  Choose one wall to feature on and keep all other wall art and shelving to a minimum so draw attention to your design.
