Macmillan Coffee Morning

Macmillan Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event.  Each year they ask people across the UK to hold coffee morning events and donate the proceeds to the charity, so this year we thought we’d get involved and hold our own!

People throughout Plumbs showed off their baking skills with a vast range of delights including; muffins, scones, chocolate fudge cake, lemon drizzle, teacakes and egg custards.  If that isn’t enough to make you hungry, take a look at the tasty treats below….

On Trend with Tartan

From Westwood's sharp punk cuts to Chanel's timeless elegance, Tartan has become a fashionable pattern long associated with riding jackets, kilts and autumn style.  You can capture this enduring trend for your home with fabric, prints and hangings.

Plumbs Re-upholstery

Tartan is perfect for making a real impression in the autumn and winter months.  The pattern conjures images of breezy Highland scenes and blazing fire places. This high quality, majestic Balmoral Red re-upholstery fabric is a real winner, particularly when re-upholstered to sturdy, traditional furniture. To complete the look we’ve reupholstered a foot stool in a simple red fabric, to pick out the tones of the Tartan fabric.

Tartan Wallpaper

A bold choice which often finds favour in country homes and Highland manors, tartan wallpaper can lend a regal air to the most ordinary of rooms. It works best paired with dark, antique furniture, deep red carpets and a bold personality. If you choose to use the plaid pattern in your dining room, you should favour crisp white tablecloths, dark bronze sculptures and a set of dining chair covers in either red or deep gold.

Plumbs Re-upholstery

Another option is to pep up a plainer room with tartan accessories; a set of throw pillows in Heather Skye, or a stack of vintage blankets, paired with a matching pouffe or even a plaid beanbag for the kids. Candles, coat racks and teapots can all be purchased in traditional tartan patterns, or in contemporary reinterpretations by designers who love to subvert existing motifs and make them edgy again.

If you want to ensure your home is on trend with tartan, contact Plumbs today for a free, no obligation quote for loose covers made from our fabulous plaid re-upholstery fabrics.

London Fashion Week

It’s never too early to look ahead when it comes to London Fashion Week, so we thought we’d take a look at what colour trends have been on the catwalk for next Spring/Summer, to help you co-ordinate your home with your wardrobe.

Emilia Wickstead’s Spring/Summer looks for 2014 were all about block colour in blues, yellows and pastel pinks, only broken up with a few striped pieces.  Designs were simple, feminine and elegant which meant the real focus was on the beautiful shades of colour.  Plain coloured fabrics look great in the home too, especially on sofas to showcase good simple design.  Our Maddison fabric in Cornflower is the perfect way to add a splash of colour to your living room and can also be placed with bold throws and cushions for a complementary look.

Loose Covers

Temperley London showcased pinks, plums and reds for their show, in floor length embelished skirts and dresses. "It’s about complete romance; a Sicilian dream; a tropical mood in a Mediterranean environment” says Alice Temperley (Vogue.co.uk). This femine and romantic look can be achieved using our Elite fabric in Crocus designed by Wilmans.  Complete the look with clashing textures or by using floral and striped cushions together for a contrasting look.

Reupholstery

A fresh, clean breeze is sweeping aside all the fuss and frills for next spring”, says fashion writer Alison Lynch (Metro Blog), and that’s definitely clear to see when you look at Emilia Wickstead’s clean cut shapes and vibrant yellow and green shades.  These colours will work perfectly next season, with block colour outfits or our simple Panama Loose Covers (shown in Lime) being dressed up or down with accessories to keep up with current trends.

Bora Aksu uses handmade Turkish textiles with crocheted pieces and sheer panels in his collection.  He mainly used soft colours such as pale blues but also included this showstopping colour on a floor length gown.  You can make an impression in your home with similar bold tones, using our Perdita fabric in Scarlett.  Teamed with neutral walls and splashes of red accessories, this look definitely has that wow factor.

Titan Damask - Honey Cream

The beautiful and regal sofa has been reupholstered in Titian Damask- Honey Cream. The fabric has an elegant and intricate design that complements the shape and curves of this double ended Chaise-Lounge.  The timeless design of this piece of furniture means that it could sit perfectly in traditional and modern homes alike.

Cream Sofa

This unusual piece is more like art than furniture, and puts  a modern and inventive spin on a traditional style. The curve makes it look as though the sofa is climbing the walls!  Very creative!

Chelsea Velvet - Eggplant

This tall French winged backed chair covered in Chelsea Velvet – Eggplant, is a very striking piece, that would fit perfectly in a gothic style home. Styles like this are very sought after today as people want to reclaim classic furniture and mix with modern pieces.
