2021 trends for the furniture you love

We all know that 2020 was a strange year, but it certainly helped many of us to reassess our decor and what we want out of our living spaces. Whether all that time at home has prompted the need for a fresh lick of paint, or even a major renovation project, it seems everyone has an interiors project on the books for this year.

The number one rule, as always, is to opt for what you love. Need a bit of bright pink to brighten up your work from home week? Go for it! Fancy some boucle accessory cosiness to warm up these winter weekends? Sounds like a plan to me. Yet despite opting for what we love, sometimes its nice to take a little inspiration from the world of interior trends, so we’ve rounded up the top styling tips for your furniture in 2021.

Going Green

CDL emerald

Increasingly popular, and a personal favourite, rich forest greens have been on our radar for a while now. Perhaps the result of us searching for something a little different, or maybe a longing for a little more time in the outdoor aesthetic, there’s no doubt that you’ve been seeing this look all over your Pinterest feed.

Already a deep and warming colour, there’s no better pairing for this colour than velvet fabrics. This decadent combination will have you greeting another weekend on the sofa with joy as you settle into a box set binge. Not a fan of thick velvets? Our bestselling Cardinal in Emerald is the perfect option. Catching the light in all the right places, it’s an all year round solution.

Keeping things simple

simplyhouseandhome

It’s not just us who decided to declutter their home about 10 times last year, right? With so much time being spent in the same space, cutting back on the unnecessary feels good for the soul. We’re thinking clean white linens and natural wood furniture, with maybe a few pops of cottage core style scatter cushions to keep things interesting.

Recent customer, Carol, has worked this look to perfection with our Bayswater fabric in Pearl. Head to her Instagram, @simplyhouseandhome, to see more of her beautiful home.

Pantone palette

pantone 21

Each year, Pantone releases their colour of the year to set out their stall for the year ahead. Unsurprisingly, this year was a little different as they marked the year with two colours; Illuminating, a bright yellow, and Ultimate Gray, a soft grey shade. These colours always tend to work their way into our hearts and homes throughout the year, so note them now to be ahead of the curve.

If you’re interested in why the colours were selected, Executive Director at Pantone’s Colour Institute has explained all; ‘It highlights how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting’.

We’ve only scratched the surface of the trends that are to come this year, but as we all spend more time at home, it is essential that you create a peaceful and calming space that you love. Our reupholstery, sofa cover and curtain services are here to help if you need them, simply get in touch today for free advice and to see all our fabrics. Happy styling!
