What's your style?

Ever wondered what interior style suits you best?

Are you modern, chic, retro or vintage? Not sure? Well we’ve put together a little quiz based on aspects of everyday life such as; what clothes you like to wear, what you like to do at the weekend and where you feel most comfortable to help you decide on a style that’s most suited to you.

Once you’ve finished the quiz why not tell everyone what style you are (hit the tweet or share button) and see if your friends agree!

Creating a Neutral Haven

Colours are brilliant at creating moods in a room, but keeping colours in neutral hues can create a beautifully relaxing and sophisticated haven. By mixing textures, tones, and materials you can create a timeless soothing atmosphere you’ll relish coming home to unwind in.  A neutral colour pallet includes not just white, but soft greys, indulgent creams, and can be contrasted with brown or black accessories.  One big advantage of having a neutral colour scheme is you can always add splashes of colour at a later date without having to redesign your room.

The cool grey sofa and glass accessories in this room create a fresh and relaxing environment.  The clash of patterns, textures and old and new help add interest to this simple yet sophisticated design.

Creating a neutral living space can seem quite daunting, especially if you normally choose dark forgiving hues that hide any mishaps.  However, by incorporating rugs and throws you can create a sumptuous and comforting environment that’s also practical to live in.

This simple yet stylish Luxury Ravello fabric in Rich Vanilla has completely transformed this vintage piece of furniture and would help to freshen up any room.  When accessorizing think about how much white or black you want in the room, as an imbalance can be stark and heavy.  By adding accessories with light wood and foliage/floral wallpaper you can add a natural influence to the design.  Lighting helps to add warmth, and softens the cool colours of a neutral room, think big lamps, and simple candles.

Colour Of The Year: Radiant Orchid

Pantone have announced their colour of the year for 2014 as Radiant Orchid, (taking over from last year’s Emerald Green) which is set to take over homes, catwalks and advertising this year.

As the name might suggest this purple/pink hue is invigorating, warm and evokes creativity. “While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®.

Although the lilac undertones of this colour are quite feminine, this colour can be paired with a variety of accent colours to create different individual looks. Teamed with reds and the look will be deep and seductive. Pairing with shades of purple and lavender will create an elegant and sophisticated look. For a more toned down and masculine look, try co-ordinating with white and black and brushed steel accessories. Or complement with an array of green shades such as Olive, Turquoise and even last year’s Emerald Green to add energy to a scheme. This adaptable colour will work well on all aspects of the home such as walls, window dressing, furniture and accessories.

Fairhaven Lilac Swatches

These Fairhaven loose covers in Lilac are a great way to add colour to your furnishings and have been co-ordinated with fabrics in similar purple hues such as these bold floral curtains in Vista from Swaffer, and Balmoral check scatter cushions in Aubergine to add interest and texture.

ClockSilk Clock, All Modern

This clock is perfect if you just want to add a splash of colour to a particular area, and the unusual design means this piece will attract attention even when Radiant Orchid is no longer the colour of the year.

A Passion for Purple

As autumn nights roll in, the skies become truly beautiful, bursting with low sunlight before melting into the dusky lilac of twilight. Purple is an archetypal Autumn hue, reflected in the lowering light and the juicy berries which suddenly burst from every hedgerow and shrub.

Purple is an elegant, regal hue, with amethyst coloured dyes originally reserved for emperors due to their rarity and costliness. It looks wonderful when used in a monochromatic way, with multiple shades; soft lilacs complementing red toned purples and deep, royal hues that conjure rich evening gowns, classic Cadburys chocolate and sumptuous velvet all at once.  The colour is a part of the traditional autumnal palette, ranging from almost neutral to deep, gorgeous jewel tones which reference nature's beauty.

Plumbs Reupholstery

Fresh and luxurious reupholstery is one way – once our consultants discuss options with you and measure your furniture, we can arrange to have your furniture reupholstered by professionals. A stack of gorgeous throw cushions is another way to incorporate purple into your home décor. For contrast, consider arranging a bowl of lavender blooms; the light blue purple as counterpart to richer hues along with the fresh, sharp fragrance of the flowers, refreshing your lounge.
