There’s something wonderfully comforting about sinking into your favourite sofa or armchair at the end of a long day. These treasured pieces become part of everyday life — hosting family gatherings, quiet moments with a good book, and countless memories along the way. Over time, even the most-loved furniture can begin to show signs of wear. When that happens, many people assume replacement is the only option. But as our customer Jackie discovered, there’s another way.
When her much-loved sofa and armchair started to look tired and no longer reflected the style of her home, Jackie chose to explore reupholstery with Plumbs instead. Rather than saying goodbye to furniture she loved, she gave it a beautiful new lease of life — transforming familiar favourites into pieces that felt perfectly at home once again.
Jackie’s transformation journey began with a visit from her local Plumbs Home Consultant, Lauren. Bringing a selection of fabric swatches and a wealth of experience, Lauren took the time to assess the furniture, understand Jackie’s needs, and explore the best options for her home.
As the sofa and armchair frames were still in excellent condition, Lauren recommended made-to-measure removable covers, as a practical, long-lasting solution that would refresh the look of the furniture without the need for replacement or internal work.
Seeking the most refined fit possible, Jackie chose our Traditional Tailored covers. Crafted directly onto the furniture itself, this bespoke approach creates a beautifully bespoke finish that follows every curve and detail of the piece. Think of it as the furniture equivalent of a Savile Row suit — expertly tailored for a flawless fit and timeless appeal.
With the practical details in place, it was time for one of the most enjoyable parts of the process: choosing the fabrics. Jackie wanted a look that felt warm and inviting while complementing the timeless English character of her home. For her sofa, she selected our bestselling Cardinal fabric in the shade Moss — a beautifully soft chenille that combines everyday comfort with effortless style. Its rich texture and extensive colour palette made it the perfect foundation for creating a cosy, welcoming living space.
For the armchair, Jackie was keen to introduce a little more personality with a design that felt rooted in heritage yet fresh for modern interiors. Morris 01 in Strawberry proved to be the ideal choice. Featuring a striking large-scale pattern on a soft parchment-toned ground, it captures the enduring appeal of classic Arts and Crafts design without feeling dated. Together, the two fabrics create a beautiful balance of comfort and character.
On occasion, we collect furniture to produce Traditional Tailored covers, allowing our craftspeople to create a template of the furniture for that signature close fit. In this case, however, we were able to visit and create the template in the comfort of Jackie’s home, meaning she could continue to use her furniture whilst her covers were made.
Once finished, our team returned to fit the covers and enjoy the transformation alongside Jackie, who was thrilled with the result.
