If there’s one effortless update that can utterly transform a room, it’s your window dressings. Whether it’s an elegantly draped curtains the playful pop of a patterned blind, these finishing touches bring character and warmth to your home like nothing else. We were recently delighted to collaborate with Jessie (@ourlittleflintcottage) to craft a several beautiful looks—each one more inspiring than the last.
Nestled in the heart of the English countryside, Jessie and her family have been lovingly restoring their 200-year-old cottage, to reflect its heritage and timeless charm. With much of the hard work already done, it was time for those all-important final flourishes – and that’s where our team at Plumbs came in. During a visit with one of our local home consultants, Jessie shared her vision: she wanted to bring a touch of pattern and softness to the windows in her kitchen and utility room, along with a practical blind for the connecting door to add an extra layer of cosiness come evening.
Together, they curated a fabric scheme that felt both considered and effortlessly in-keeping with the character of the cottage. For the kitchen windows, Holcombe – Ochre offered a beautifully understated stripe – ideal for subtly drawing the eye upwards and giving the illusion of height beneath the low cottage ceilings. Its soft mustard tone added warmth to the room, whilst echoing a heritage hue. To complement this, a coordinating blind in Burford – Ochre was chosen for the connecting door – a space where made-to-measure precision was absolutely key. With tricky fixtures and a tight frame to work around, it called for expert attention to detail – and thankfully, that’s exactly what we’re known for. We were delighted to provide the tailored solution Jessie had been looking for.
Stepping through to the utility room, we were thrilled to find the walls adorned with William Morris’s iconic Strawberry Thief wallpaper—an inspired choice that set the tone for the next phase of the scheme. With heritage detail and classic English country charm at the heart of Jessie’s vision, it was the perfect moment to embrace a pattern clash. From Clarke & Clarke’s reimagined William Morris Designs collection, Golden Lily 01 – Linen/Blush echoed the existing palette beautifully, while introducing another of Morris’s most beloved patterns. Rich in character yet delicately balanced, it proved the perfect choice to elevate the space even further.
With fabrics finalised, it was down to the finishing touches. Our Complete Window Service and collection of luxury tracks and poles meant Jessie could design her space down to the finest detail. Antique brass poles would echo the existing hardware of her home, pinch pleat headings would complete the elegant, heritage feel, and a choice of linings allowed her to further control light and heat loss in her space too.
As always, Jessie’s consultant expertly took all the measures required, before sending them on to our team here in Lancashire where they would be beautifully crafted. Once complete, our dedicated team of curtain fitters returned to expertly fit Jessie’s new poles and hang her new curtains with care. We were delighted to see how they transformed the space, injecting personality and style. More importantly, so was Jessie! Here’s what she had to say…
