To help you care for your new window dressings, we’ve put together our top cleaning and maintenance tips so you can keep your curtains and blinds fresh, elegant, and looking their best for years to come.
Day-to-day curtain care
From weighted and mitred corners to blind hems, it’s the thoughtful touches that set the quality of our curtains apart. To keep your curtains looking their best, its important to regularly dress and lightly clean them. For example…
- To keep your curtains free of dust and dirt, vacuum your curtains regularly using a brush attachment.
- Regular redressing will help to keep your drapes in place and maintain the appearance of your curtains.
- If you notice any creases in your curtains, steaming in situ will help to remove these.
- For curtains with a chenille or velvet pile, vacuuming with a soft brush attachment will also help to reduce any flattening or shading of the fabric.
Washing your curtains
As many of our fabrics are machine washable, it is often possible to give your curtains a deeper clean when required. It is important to always check the label sewn into your curtains for full details of their care instructions. If the label confirms that your curtains are machine washable, follow these steps…
- For pencil and pinch pleat curtains, ensure to remove any curtain hooks.
- Machine wash at 30°C on a light spin setting.
- Do not tumble dry your curtains. Please line dry.
- If required, use a cool iron to remove any creases whilst your curtains are still damp.
- Each curtain should be washed at the same time using a non-colour enhancing detergent.
- Do not machine wash pelmets or tie-backs. If required, clean using a damp sponge.
Alternatively, please enquire with a dry cleaner about cleaning your curtains.
Rehanging your curtains after cleaning
If you have taken your curtains down for cleaning, how you rehang them will depend on the header.
- Eyelet curtains: Thread the curtain pole through each eyelet at the top of the curtain using a concertina style. Once threaded, position the pole on its brackets and adjust the curtain so it hangs smoothly.
- Pinch pleat curtains: Rehook the pleats onto your curtain pole rings or track gliders. Adjust the fullness and spacing for a neat, balanced look.
- Pencil pleat curtains: Reinsert the curtain hooks into the sewn pleats, ensuring each is evenly spaced, then attach them to the curtain rings or gliders. Using the adjustable slider, hang and adjust so the pleats fall neatly and evenly.
