Pantone have announced their colour of the year for 2014 as Radiant Orchid, (taking over from last year’s Emerald Green) which is set to take over homes, catwalks and advertising this year.
As the name might suggest this purple/pink hue is invigorating, warm and evokes creativity. “While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute¬Æ.
Although the lilac undertones of this colour are quite feminine, this colour can be paired with a variety of accent colours to create different individual looks. Teamed with reds and the look will be deep and seductive. Pairing with shades of purple and lavender will create an elegant and sophisticated look. For a more toned down and masculine look, try co-ordinating with white and black and brushed steel accessories. Or complement with an array of green shades such as Olive, Turquoise and even last year’s Emerald Green to add energy to a scheme. This adaptable colour will work well on all aspects of the home such as walls, window dressing, furniture and accessories.
These Fairhaven loose covers in Lilac are a great way to add colour to your furnishings and have been co-ordinated with fabrics in similar purple hues such as these bold floral curtains in Vista from Swaffer, and Balmoral check scatter cushions in Aubergine to add interest and texture.
