Every now and again we look around our homes and think about the improvements that we could make, and this is never more so than at the beginning of a new season. However it may not always be practical to completely redesign a room or take on a big project, so we’ve put together this list of the easiest ways to quickly update your space.
A Gallery Wall
Gallery walls have been a Pinterest favourite for some time, and it doesn’t look like they’re going anywhere soon. These are popular as it’s a great way to display all of your art or photography in one place, and also the layout itself can be just as artistic as the images on display.
New Scatter Cushions
New Scatter cushions are one of the quickest and cheapest ways to add a splash of colour and pattern to a room, and are also the most easy to change when you want to update the scheme at a later date.
Add new lighting
Lighting is one of the most important ways to change the ambiance of a room, yet is often overlooked. There are so many options when it comes to choosing what type of lighting and where to position it, so it’s worth considering how you use the room before spending any money. For example, if you like to read a lot you may want to create a cosy corner with an adjustable lamp, and lots of comfy throws.
Add some plants
Fresh flowers and plants are a great way to bring the outdoors in and a sense of freshness to your home. For a more modern look, try to choose plants and flowers in one or two colours, and keep plant pots simple.
Change the Curtains
With winter round the corner, now may the perfect time to consider some new curtains to keep the heat in. Thick, sumptuous curtains not only help on the energy bills, they create a luxurious look. Try to position curtains near the ceiling and buy them long enough to just skim the floor. This tricks the eye into thinking the window is bigger than in actually is.
There are lots of ways to update your living space without spending a lot of money, and these are just a small selection of them. Pinterest is a great source when looking for inspiration and little tricks to transform a room, so it’s usually worth creating a mood board before changing anything to work out what type of look you’re trying to create.
