Plumbs Create Jobs in Dover with New Manufacturing Site

Re-upholstery and loose covers specialists Plumbs have opened a new factory in Dover to cover their South East loose covers and re-upholstery orders, creating jobs for people in the local area.

Providing work for 12 new employees local to the Dover area, including loose cover makers and re-upholsterers, the 52-year-old business hopes to turn around initially 12 orders per week, increasing to 20 per week by the end of the year.

Utilising an already established resource for manufacturing in the South East area, Plumbs have set up the new factory with a mix of new craftsmen and women and established employees who have been working for Plumbs in the South East area for up to 8 years. All of Plumbs upholsterers are carefully selected for their skill and dedication to creating beautiful furniture.

Sarah Page, Plumbs managing director, explains the need for the new site:

“With the expansion of our re-upholstery business, particularly in the South East of England, we needed for be mindful of the transport of goods. The new site at Dover is logistically an ideal position, with a strong transport network in place.” She continues, “With re-upholstery and loose covers interest increasing in the South of the country, it is important that we have a base in that area alongside our headquarters in the North West to ensure a successful and efficient service for the increasing demand.”

Plumbs show a strong commitment to building and manufacturing in the South East of the country, with plans to expand and develop the site. Future developments include the possibility of opening a showroom, and creating even more jobs for people in the local area.

“These are exciting times to be investing in manufacturing, particularly with the current emphasis on Great British manufacturing and traditional British craftsmenship.” Says Sarah Page, “It is a joy to be able to provide jobs in the current climate, and we are all very excited for the future of the Dover site.”
