Plumbs Employees Raise Almost 12k in Charity Walk

Employees of loose covers and re-upholstery specialists Plumbs recently took part in a gruelling 24-hour walk up three of Britain’s largest Mountains in aid of small charity the Three Hills Action Trust. With the final donations coming in, Plumbs are set to have raised almost £12,000 for the charity.

The task, popularly known as the National Three Peaks Challenge, saw 22 of Plumbs’ employees, including re-upholsterers, home consultants and head office staff walking up and down three of the country’s largest mountains.
With just 24 hours to complete the walk, the group of volunteers began their journey at the foot of Ben Nevis, continuing on to the Lake District’s Scarfell Pike, and ending the day at Snowdon in Wales.

At 5:45pm on Friday 18th May, two coach loads of Plumbs employees arrived in Scotland, excited for the task ahead. The pace was set and the first of the three mountains was conquered in jovial spirit.

The sun was rising over the Lake District as the group of volunteers reached mountain number two. Starting at 5:30am Saturday 19th May, the two groups soldiered on through burning calves and rubbing shoes, making a time of just under 3 hours.

The coaches of weary volunteers, made their final journey down to North Wales, where the group began their final ascent at 3:45pm. The challenge was completed at 5:30pm, leaving just 15 minutes before the 24-hour deadline.

Colleagues and contributors were at the base of Snowdon to congratulate the team. Amongst them, Plumbs Consultant’s and Charity founders Jim and Marian Ewan gave heart-felt thanks to the efforts of the Plumbs team.

The final donations have been trickling in, overtaking Plumbs original target of £5000. Personal and company donations are now set to reach almost £6000, with Plumbs doubling the figure to give a life-changing £12,000 for the Three Hills Action Trust.

The charity, founded in 2009 following the Ewans’ eye-opening trip to Kenya, has been set up to raise awareness and funds for the small village of Neema Nguuni in the district of Nguu Tatu – otherwise known as the ‘Three Hills’. The money raised will help toward providing training and apprenticeships for the people of Neema Nguuni.

“It was only fitting that we use the Three Peaks challenge to help support the Three Hills Trust.” Says organiser of the event and business development manager, Chris Plumb. “It is such a worthy cause and we hope that the money we have raised in this event will help to bring independence and happiness to the people of Neema Ngunni.”
