Velvet: give in to your softer side

Home All Velvet: give in to your softer side

Another month over and searches for velvet are still on the rise. We could put it down to a general need for some warmth this winter, but this plush look has been on our must have lists for about two years now.

Now repeat after me: ‘I should indulge in my interiors’. There’s no better way to add a little luxe to the home than some sumptuosly soft designs – plus there’s nothing better for taking that Sunday afternoon nap on. So, whether its a simple scatter or a full sofa, read on for our top tips on adding some va-va-velvet to your home.

All out opulence

Okaaaay, I’ll admit it. At times my interiors taste can be a little extravagant, but nobody can deny that this a look to get your homedécorloving hearts racing!

Our very clever stylists have gone all in on the velvet look for this one, combining Secrecy, Bluebell with an all-time favourite Amalfi, Dark Blue.

Steeped in regal history, deep tones of blue are the grounding colour in this living room look. As if velvet weren’t luxurious enough, the dark tones mean you can’t help wanting to relax a little deeper into your seat. Purple and pink tones add something a little different to this set-up, however, as the abstract floral curtain fabric brings about a modern twist. As fitting in a country house as it would be in a stylish city flat – it’s my number one pick for contemporary chic.

Parred back plush

cardinal rose

Those who read our 2020 trends blog, will know full well that earthy tones are on our lust list this year, and this look using Cardinal, Rose will give you the best of both worlds.

Closer to a crushed velvet, Cardinal is one of our bestselling fabrics. Not only is it available in a whole spectrum of colours, but it also can be made into a removable (and machine washable!) sofa cover. This is a great option for those who want to refresh their look, but keep the same sofa they know and love.

Who knew neutral on neutral could have such a pop? This dusky rose shade means that the minimalists among us can cause a velvet inspired stir, without stepping too far from their comfort zone. The varying textures, such as marble wallpaper and mixed accessories, add an extra bit of intrigue to the look too.

Little luxuries

dining

Here at Plumbs, we know the velvet look isn’t one for everyone’s sofa, but that doesn’t mean there’s no room for a little luxe in your life.

Take Ann for example, last year her corner sofa and dining chairs were ready for a revamp. Whilst she didn’t choose a velvet for her sofa, her dining chairs were treated to a Cardinal, Fuchsiaand Blushmakeover.

The fun, multi-tonal dining chairs added something a little different to her open plan home, and the shades were carried across by matching scatters on her sofa. You can check out the full makeover story, here.
